Hockey World mourns the late Vancouver Canucks Rick Rypien –NHL News Update
What might have been thought as a loss only for the Vancouver Canucks fan base, turned out to be much more than that in every sense, as teams and people from all around the hockey world came out and mourned the death of one of the National Hockey League’s
(NHL) most entertaining players.
27-year-old Rick Rypien, who was signed onto the new Winnipeg Jets franchise after becoming a free agent on July 1, shocked the entire world after he was found dead at his home in Coleman, Alberta, Canada, on Monday, August 15.
Still, the cause of death is unknown, but it has widely been termed as mental issues which were affecting the player for a number of years, but had not allowed others around him to notice his suffering.
Vancouver Canucks, a team with which the former player spent six seasons, was the first to come out and issue a statement in mourning.
"It is with tremendous sadness that the Vancouver Canucks confirm the passing of Rick Rypien. Rick has been a beloved member of the Canucks family for the past six years. Rick was a great teammate and friend to our players, coaches and staff. We send our
deepest condolences to the Rypien family at this most difficult time."
NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman, also released a statement, which showed how much the player had meant to the league.
"The National Hockey League sends its deepest condolences to the family, friends and teammates of Rick Rypien, who played the game with so much energy and emotion".
Winnipeg Jets, a franchise which has signed on the player, probably had the strongest ties with Rypien, who began to develop relations with all of the top level management, issued a very deep and meaningful statement following his death.
It not only covered their relationship with him, which had developed over the past few months, but also appreciated all that he had done for their farm league team at that time which was Manitoba Moose.
