Question:

Hockey face-off question?

When they are about to do a faceoff after the puck goes out of play or something, two guys face each other to fight for the puck.

Sometimes the ref tells one guy to beat it and brings in another player. Why is that? Did the guy curse? Was it the wrong guy in the first place?

How come the ref tells the guy 'fuggetaboutit?!'

Hockey is great, but no one understands this....if you do then let me know amigo!

If the puck ain't dropped yet why would he kick the guy out? I mean he shows up, he's ready for some pucks and then BAM....get outta here!!

Some one explain this!! The world needs to know!!

  1. Usually this is because someone from that players team entered the faceoff circle before the ref dropped the puck thereby disqualifying that player from the face off.

  2. The guy that got out was moving his stick before the ref drops the puck. If you do this twice before the ref drops the puck the forward comes in

  3. because there are certain rules on who puts their stick down first depending on his is home and who is away....also you have to postition your skates a certain way....sometimes your team takes to long with a line change....sometimes someone not taking the faceoff moves before the puck is dropped...there are many different reasons and people do understand it if you know about hockey

  4. Because the player is cheating!

  5. What you are seeing mostly is the player is "cheating" they must be still before the puck is dropped. Many try to "time" the drop by moving the stick to the ice before the drop.

  6. There are a number of situations that would cause an official to toss a center from a face-off.  Here are the majority of the reasons a center can be tossed from a face-off.

~ The center did not place his stick or skates in the designated area.

~ The team took too much time in completing the line change.

~ The center moved/jumped prior to the official dropping the puck.

~ The center refused to put his stick down or position himself properly in the allotted time.

~ One of the players not taking the face-off moved into the face-off circle prior to the drop of the puck.

There are a few other situations which can cause a center to be ejected from a face-off.  If it happens twice on the same face-off, the team will be assessed a minor penalty.

  7. he is too rough.  if you see the ref fake drop the puck, he see's if the players are rough.  if so, he brings in another.
