  1. LOL... can't believe someone took the time to actually list that many penalites and rules...lol... give em a web link....

  2. Here is the NHL rulebook. I know it isn't the most exciting thing, but it has the most information. There is some interesting stuff in there- including a lot of things I didn't know about(even after watching hockey my whole life)

  3. Since somebody already gave the positions... i'll explain the penalties. Penalties can either be 2 minutes, or 5 minutes - sometimes 10.

Here are the names of the penalties:

Boarding -  shoving an opponent so that he is thrown violently against the boards.

Charging - Taking more than three skating strides prior to checking an opponent.

Checking from Behind -  Checking or hitting an opponent whose back is facing you, often into the boards.

Cross-Checking - Hitting an opponent with both hands on the stick and no part of the stick on the ice.

Delayed Penalty - When a referee signals that he is about to penalize a player, but will not stop play until the team to be penalized touches the puck.

Elbowing - Using an elbow in any way to foul an opponent.

Hand Pass - Called when a player uses his hand to direct the puck to another player from the same team in the offensive or neutral zone. Hand passes are allowed in the defensive zone.

High Sticking - Striking your opponent while carrying the stick above shoulder level.

Holding - Holding an opponent from moving with hands or stick or any other way.

Hooking - Hooking a stick aroung an opponent to try to block his progress.

Icing - Intentionally shooting the puck from behind the center red line over your opponent's goal line. Not technically a penalty, icing results in a faceoff in the offending team's zone.

Interference - Illegal body contact with an opponent who is not in possession of the puck, or knocking an opponent's fallen stick out of his reach.

Penalty Shot - When an attacking player has been clearly pulled down preventing a breakaway shot on the goalie.

Slashing - Hitting an opposing player with the stick or swinging the stick at an opposing player.

Spearing - Stabbing an opponent with the point of the stick blade while the stick is being carried in one or both hands.

Tripping - Using a stick, knee, foot, arm, hand, or elbow to cause an opponet to trip or fall.

Washout - When used by a referee it means the goal does not count; when used by a linesman, it means there is no icing or off-sides.

  4. i can give you the positions

    right and left wing

    center

    right and left defender

    goaltender

  5. to get you started, they call off-sides a lot. this means that when one player crosses the blue line to the other zone with the puck, someone else from the same team is already on the other side of the blue line. The person with the puck needs to get there first.

Positions--center, left wing, right wing, and two defensemen.

  6. Center - The player that takes the faceoff, plays defense and offense and are usually the most defensive forwards on the team.

Left Wing - The player that plays on the left side of the center player, they plays deep into the corners or around there on offense. On defense they guard the point (blue line), usually.

Right Wing - Same thing as the left winger, except to the right of the center player.

Left Defense - Left side of the center and usually behind the center as well. On offense they usually stay by the blue line to save a loose puck or take a slap shot and hope to score while there is  traffic in the front. On defense they stay by the goalie, covering the slot, corners and behind the net.

Right Defense - Same as the left defense, except to the right side of the center player and behind them.

Goalie - The player with the huge pads to block shots from the opposing team. Their role is to not let a single puck pass the goal line.
