Hockey latest; “Indian side is capable of capturing gold in London Olympics” says Brasa
The outgoing chief coach Jose Brasa said on Tuesday that the hockey team of India is capable of a strong finish at the 2012 Olympic Games to be held in London, provided that they go through proper training prior to the big event.
After failing to qualify for the Olympic Games on the very first occasion in eight years when the competition was held in Beijing back in 2008, the Indian hockey team will have to go through qualifiers to confirm their place in the next edition.
"Forget about the qualifiers, this team is capable of winning a medal in Olympic. If they are trained properly with scientific method, adequate support staff with a sports psychologist, proper programme and modern equipments. None of these is available now.
If they maintain the same form, they can beat any team. I mean the kind of hockey they played against Pakistan and England in New Delhi CWG and then in Guangzhou Asian Games. I strongly believe that the same bunch of players can win qualifiers," said Brasa
of Spain.
Moreover, he also reflected that two years of proper training will be a major key to their performance at the Olympic Games in 2012.
"I am impressed with Indian players. They are motivated, skilful and hardworking. What they need is better facilities and proper guidance. I hope that better sense prevails in officials and they provide them what they need,” declared the Spanish coach.
Brasa also insisted that the national coach of Indian side Harenda Singh should take his resignation back and help his team in polishing their talent and playing well up to the mark at the London Olympics. Singh announced his resignation on moral grounds
after the final four loss versus Malaysia in the recently concluded Asian Games in New Delhi.
While commenting on his overall experience with the Indian team, Brasa whose contract has expired on Tuesday, said that he will cherish every bit of time spent with the Indian players. He further added that the Indian crowd is one of the best one he has
ever experienced in his entire life.
