Question:

Hockey players are apparently a superstitious bunch - how about fans?

Do you have any rituals or lucky items that you can't watch a game without?

I admit I took off a necklace last night because I'd worn it both times the Wings had lost in the last few days. I also put on the jersey the kids bought me for Mothers' Day - so far that one has worked!

Hubby says they lost on Sat merely because I didn't watch. A bit unfair really. Like it could possibly have an effect, ...honestly.

  1. Not really, although Cam Ward for the canes only skates twards the left side of net buring practice. kinda odd. but cool.

  2. I hate to say it, because I'm a little embarrassed, but I'm very superstistitious about watching hockey.  More so than playing/getting dressed like most goalkeeps.  I'll eat the same things in front of the game for snacks, or refrain from saying "this game's over" with a minute or so left, you get the picture.  In my MIND I know it doesn't really matter, but the little voice in my helmet says OH yes it does....

  3. I used to have a lucky jersey, but then it got washed.

I can't shave my legs on game day, before the game.

If I look away while my favorite player has the puck, he's more likely to score.

  4. I got a lucky hat which is almost always on....if I start the game right from work I might not have had time to get out of my business atire....pause the TiVo and go get the hat

  5. Ha.  I get yelled at for watching/not watching AND leaving the room/staying in the room.  My boyfriend is convinced that he must watch at least 50% of a game; otherwise his team will definetely lose.  Also, apparently our cat being present while the game is on is good luck.

    Nuts!

  6. I partake in the playoff beard. If my team gets to the playoffs, I shave my face right after the last reg season game and dont touch it untill they are done with the playoffs. This is a ritual since there is no trimming or grooming at all during the playoff run or else its not an official beard.

  7. When I can't watch the game I have to wear my Mike Richards t shirt with the orange brind'amour jersey over top of it or else the Flyers lose (so I think at least).

When I'm watching the game, I don't have any rituals except yelling at the tv, because sometimes they hear me and do as I say.

  8. I don't shave during a series, I let my hair grow until the Wings win or are eliminated, I always try to watch/listen to the game, and I wear my black Wings shirt when I sleep at home, washing only before a series (if I opt to).

  9. I have several:

I am not allowed to go to playoff games because every game that I go to they loose

    Wear my "lucky" jersey

I have to get my homework done before I watch the game or they loose

    etc.

  10. I have unlucky Sabres socks...nay, I should say...had. But they came in a three pack so I don't really know which ones are really the sucky ones.

    "Little house" haha thats funny!

  11. I have one superstition I always observe: Never, ever, EVER root for the New York Rangers! Even if that means rooting for the Philadelphia Flyers!

  12. well if my family interrupts me during game day the team(s) i'm rooting for automatically loses...it's for all sports.

i'm usually eating during a game, i don't know why, so i guess it's become an unthinking ritual.

i always have my broom with me.

and if it's the leafs i make sure i'm wearing my leafs undies.

and i was eating dinner during last nights game.

also i try not to make predictions (really i do), but if i do say it (it's an automatic jinx), i make sure i say it twice, or how many times i said the prediction previously to negate my jinx.

aside from all that i'm not really supersitious at all...that's why i'll be wearing red tomorrow so that manchester can beat the chelsea blues for tomorrows uefa cup.

lol at this comment:"anything that happens in my life can be directly attributed to the win loss columns of my red wings and michigan football."

anything that happens in sports for me, can be directly attributed to soccer games. it's true. i've done predictions based on soccer games that happen around the same time a football/baseball/hockey/basketball game occurs, and more often than not they're right. i have a really bad percentage if i make soccer predictions based on other soccer games. it never works (unless it's a bottom feeder/relegated team).

  13. I once built a shrine to the red wings on my desk at work, complete with candles, flags, pictures. they lost the first 2 games of the playoffs vs vancouver in 2002. i took the shrine down. then they won the cup. anything that happens in my life can be directly attributed to the win loss columns of my red wings and michigan football. i have to play rummy during michigan football games. prolbably not very healthy to belive all that but.....

  14. Some fans are very superstitious.  I don't have any at all, though I do enjoy hearing about others rituals.
