2008 espy awards was just another year without a NHL team/player winning an award.

best team: Boston Celtics win over Red Wings upset?

best player: Crosby, - beat out Ovechkin, Malkin, Iginla, Datsyuk, someone say rigged?

best play: Giants superbowl catch - Nash goal of the year not recognized

Best Finish: WKU 3 pointer over the Pens triple OT win in Cup finals

year after year the NHL players/teams dont get recongized for their accomplishments, when will this change if ever?

well the ESPY's are run by ESPN and espn doesnt cover real sports(i.e basketball). So you arent going to see a real sport, like hockey, on the ESPY's.

The Red Wings winning the cup was not an upset, the Celtics went from worst to first.

Crosby will always win those things cause he's the NHL's coverboy plus he went to the cup finals.

Nash's goal was insignificant compared to the catch in the biggest NFL game of the season.

Pens lost the series, WKU won the title.

And ESPN just tries to put enough hockey in there to get the hockey fans to watch it.  Crosby did not deserve it, he was out a full month and a half, but maybe next year.  This might change if the NHL gets a bigger fan base which is happening, and ESPN and NHL sign a tv contract.  From what i read in the paper the celtics were pretty dominant, but if i remember correctly, a team in the east got inwith a below 500 record?  and the redwings are playing in a very difficult conference and dominated throughout the whole season.  And i believe you listed a handful of many snubs on the NHL

In Canada it's just the opposite because the hockey interest dwarfs all other pro sports.

I'm too biased to answer the first question.  The Red Wings are my team.

It has to be rigged, since Crosby missed 30 games during the regular season.  That's ridiculous.

The Giants catch was immaculate, it destroyed Belicheat's perfect season.

I have to root for WKU being in Kentucky, and against the Pens since I'm a Wings fan.  That said, both of the games overall were some of the greatest I'd ever watched.

I'd like to see more recognition on Sportscenter, let alone the ESPYs, but I doubt that the NHL can right now compete with the likes of the 3-headed monster of American sports.  Take ESPN overall with a grain of salt.

No one needs the espy awards. It's like the Oscars: self-proclaimed "best movie in the world awards" when Gladiator was ripped off from an Indian film several years earlier. I've seen a few foreign independant films that're better than some of the garbage shown. Point is, who cares what espn says? This is the same network who thinks NASCAR and poker are sports.

Crosby winning so rigged, Nash should have one his goal had SKILL, giants Superbowl catch LUCK, pens triple OT was a better finish, and best team red wings, this is never going to change bc the NHL is rarely on national TV, OK every now and then on NBC or my 9 but mostly on vs or the teams location channel like here in jersey devils and islanders on MSGplus and rangers on msg. every other team on vs and on Sundays the game of the week on NBC and it is more eastern conf. than western conf. so unless bettman does something about this no one will see the talent of the NHL except the NHL fans. baseball, basketball, tennis, golf are on national TV and even bowling is on ESPN and so are the others, so this will never change.

Well i had no problem with the Celtics winning best team and the reason as someone said the Celtics went from the basement to the penthouse.  Even as a hockey you got to credit that.  I was disappointed the game 5 in the stanley cup finals wasn't the best finish but I suppose since wku is an unknown and accomplished that they picked them.  I agree nash's goal should have been recognized but I think there was a bit of a bias because he plays for columbus and not a team like dallas its a shame giants got that one.  Maybe the blue jackets will make the playoffs next season.  Sadly not any time soon.  Football is number one, basketball and baseball fight for number 2 but honestly between the two basketball is more enjoyable sadly hockey is either considered 4th or worse depending on who you ask.  Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Ignila, Nash, etc I think are players that can change that culture but it may take a couple years.

It's ESPN... I think John Buccigross is the only one there that pays attention to hockey.  I'm surprised someone actually watches the ESPY's though.
