  1. d**n tell your son to gain some weight or he will get crushed if he starts playing in a more competitive league.

I would ask him what curve he wants, or go see what curve he currently has and try to get the closest to that.

I have a RBK 9kO with a Datsyuk curve, it is really deep, but thats how I like it. You really need to ask him though, because there is nothing worse than playing with a curve that you don't like.

He could really be senior stick BTW, since he is 5'10. I am 5'11" and I use senior.

  2. That's a great stick, but probably the most expensive one on the market. I have the RBK Acuflex..love it.

It depends on the kid. Ask him if he likes heel or toe curves. I used to have a toe curve- Sakic curve...loved it at the time, can't use toe curves anymore.

Now I have a heel curve- Datsyuk...LOVE it.

You should probably take him with you to make sure you get the right stuff.

  3. Sticks are all personal prefence... wooden shafts, graphite shafts... some can be relatively expensive also. But to me, a stick is all in the blade curve and a shaft with a bit of flex... not a lot. Take your son with you to pick one out...

I like Sakic blades... they have a gradual heal curve. Easy to get the puck off the ice with minimal effort... great for saucer passes coming out of the zone... easy to stickhandle with.. generally a real easy blade to work with.

A good way of doing things would be buy a good shaft and then you can change the blade to which one he likes. Save you money in the long run and blades are a lot cheaper than expensive "one-piece" sticks.

  4. No, he is certainly a senior size.... I'm 5'6 and I use senior. 5'6 is usually where you're supposed to switch to senior.

Check what blade pattern he has now, and look it up.

    Or even better,

Talk to him and ask what blade and stiffness he wants. This is all personal preference, so do not try to buy it without any input.

He needs to put on weight though...

The stick is a good deal here: http://hockeymonkey.com/rbk-hockey-stick...
