Hockeyroos triumph over Australia-A 5-2 in the Canberra Series – Hockey Update
Australia’s best team, Hockeyroos beat their less-experienced counterparts Australia-A 5-2 on the third day of Canberra series at National Hockey Centre in Lyneham on April 3.
The experienced players along with their junior team presented a great game in the field, trying to impress their coach Adam Commens with their out-class hockey.

It was surprising to see that team Australia-A was at the front foot making passes, determined and focused towards the game against the Hockeyroos. This enabled them to open the score in the 14th minute, shot well by Claire Messent to take an early
lead of 1-0.
It was in no time that the Hockeyroos counter attacked and scored a goal in the 18th minute. The goal was shot by Marnie Hudson after a pass from the young Kellie White, levelling the score 1-all.

In the very next minute, Australia-A unleashed a strike-back goal into the opponent’s circle, regaining their former lead at 2-1. This goal was scored by Kandice Olivieri at the 19th minute mark.
The first half went quite well for the junior team until a goal hit their circle in the closing minute of the half, levelling the score once again.
This goal was as a result of a penalty corner to the Hockeyroos in the 35th minute. Jodie Schulz confidently struck a shot where the score became 2-all.
In the beginning of the second half, Australia-A was again found dominating the field with some good play. Soon, the counterpart’s captain Madonna Blyth opened the first score for the second half at the 43rd minute mark, taking their first lead
of the day to 3-1 for Hockeyroos.
The seniors kept progressing with the lead when Marnie Hudson shot her second goal of the game, extending the lead to 4-2 in the 57th minute of the match.
Hockeyroos paced up with fury and ball-possession, making the game far more relentless for Australia-A to match-up.
With seven minutes left on the clock, Hockeyroos’ striker Ashleigh Nelson picked a pass from Teneal Attard right in front of the goal. She instantly delivered the ball home, taking the lead to 5-2.
The juniors lost hope to cover-up the three-goal lead and the time went out, sealing the Hockeyroos a victory over Australia-A at 5-2 score. Both teams battled it out and fought hard for a victory. The surprising performance by the junior Australia-A team
put the Hockeyroos on the back foot early in the game. In the end, the Hockeyroos were just too strong to seal an impressive victory.

The next matches of the Canberra series are scheduled as:
April 4 Australia-A vs. Argentina
April 5 Hockeyroos vs. Argentina
