Hockey’s player of the year award 2010 (Part one)
Five hockey players race to win the title for best player of the year in men’s and women’s categories after the proclamation of the nominees by International Hockey Federation in each class.
However, this time the players will not have to fight for the title rather it will be determined by International Hockey Federation judges.
International Hockey Federation (FIH) on the other day short listed the candidates for granting Player of the year award and announced five names in each category. Withal the final name of the successor will be heralded at the FIH Congress and Forum in Montreux,
the city of Switzerland on November 12, 2010.
The profiles of the nominated players will help the readers and hockey lovers to judge the performance of the players, among them one is going to be selected the Best player of the World.
In the category of FIH men’s player of the year, five names are nominated including Moritz Furste of Germany, Barry Middleton of England, Jamie Dwyer of Australia, Seo Jong Ho of Korea and Teun De Nooijer of Netherlands.
Teun De Nooijer
The Netherlands’ Teun De Nooijer, a three-time International Hockey Federation player of the year, is nominated for the fourth time for the same title. He was the first person of the World in the men’s category, who obtained three best player of the year
awards, followed by Jamie Dwyer, who equalled the record in 2009. He achieved FIH player of the year award in 2003, 2005 and 2006. Besides Teun and Dwyer, Stephen Veen of Netherlands also won this award twice.
Tenun started his career in a friendly match against New Zealand in 1994 and obtained his 400th cap in 2009 by beating India. The legendary Dutch midfielder scored a golden goal in the final of World Cup 1998 held in Utrecht and marked victory for his team.
Noorijer was also part of the squad, which equalled the record of achieving the 8th crown in Champions Trophy 2006.
Barren Middleton
Barren John Middleton is another name nominated in the men’s category for player of the year award, who is currently captain of England hockey team. He was part of the squad, which finished at 9th in the Summer Olympics 2004 and in 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The midfield c*m forward player of English hockey team started his international career in 2003. 
The skipper of England’s squad, Barren John has played two Olympics, two World Cups and one Champions Trophy. He also participated in three Champions Challenges, two competitions of Commonwealth Games and four Europeans League tournaments thus far.
Jamie Dwyer
The third hockey star, who is nominated by FIH, is Jamie Dwyer of Australia. He was selected best player of the year thrice, firstly in 2004, 2007 and 2009. He made his national debut in 2001 and within three years he was chosen as player of the year. Jamie
had also played hockey in India, Netherlands and Spain. He learned different techniques and styles from Dutch, Spanish and as well from Indian players.
Dwyer marked a classic hit in the gold medal winning match and broke a 48 year record of Australia in the history of the Olympics. As an individual performer, the Aussie star also scored a brilliant goal in the 2006 World Cup held in Germany.
He is a risk taker player, who used to perform unique things in the game. He was co-captain during the March 2010 World Cup, where they achieved a Gold Medal by beating Germany in the final. Keeping an eye on the London Olympics 2012, the 33-year old star
wanted to retire from the game after winning a major title.
Moritz Furste
The name of Moritz Furste is also listed in the nominees for player of the year award. He is also a legendary striker in hockey. Furste, an experienced star of Germany was born in 1984 and started hockey at the age of nine years. Furste participated in the
2008 Olympics, where Germany obtained a Gold Medal. He was also part of the World Cup squad in 2006.
Moritz played hockey for Uhlenhorstar Club, where he was captain of the team. On two occasions, he along with his team won Euro League Hockey events in 2007-08 and 2009-10. He supported his team to stand at second in the 2008-09 Season, by defeating Netherlands
in the semi-final. He achieved Best player of Euro League award in 2007-08 and 2009-10 seasons. He delivered outstanding performance in the 2010 World Cup.  However, he could not save his team from defeat in the final against Australia.
