West Bromwich Albion’s manager, Roy Hodgson has gone on to admit that Newcastle United were the better team in the teams Premier League encounter this past weekend, while revealing that the Magpies deserved to pick up all three points from the game.
Going into the game, everyone expected West Brom to give Newcastle a run for their money, given the form the two teams were displaying.
West Brom seemed to have finally picked up their pace, while Newcastle started to stumble, with many assuming the team would fall out of the top six.
Nonetheless, in the end the Magpies went on to win the game, with the final score reading three goals to one in favour of Newcastle.
Hodgson, when talking about the game is quoted to have said: “3-0 down at half-time, you’re looking down the barrel of a gun really”
“Especially as I didn’t think they were playing particularly well.
"I don’t think but to the players credit I think in the second-half they gave it a good shot to get back into it and get the early goal.
“We were caught badly on the counter-attack in the first-half with two of the goals very, very badly. Left ourselves open and lost the ball in areas where we had no need or no reason to lose it but to be fair to Newcastle they were quick to break and profit
by it.’’
He then went on to admit that the quality that his opponents displayed in the game was outstanding and that Newcastle could beat just about any team, should they get their tactics right.
Hodgson also believes that a number of his key players had an off day in the game, whereas the Newcastle players were in top form, eager to perform and more than capable of inflicting damage at will.
Over the course of the season, Newcastle have gone on to impress a number of critics with the performances that they have started to produce. The team has gone on to beat Manchester United this term and should they maintain their form, they will be on course
to playing in the Europa League this coming season.
