Hodgson could miss pre-season
Vancouver Canucks forward Cody Hodgson could miss both the team’s main camp and pre-season due to injury. Hodgson has been struggling with back problems since sustaining an injury during training in July of 2009.
The club announced that Hodgson is unlikely to be healthy for the team’s main camp and pre-season, however he will need to undergo further tests and procedures before the club is certain. The organization has said that it will hold off on the final announcement until the day camp opens on 17 September.
Hodgson was drafted 10th overall by the Canucks in the first round of the 2008 National Hockey League entry draft. The youngster has put up incredible number in his final two full seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, notching 43 goals and 92 points in 53 games in 2008-09. Last season Hodgson failed to make the team and was sent back to junior for his final year. After playing only 24 games and tallying an impressive 11 goals and 30 points he was forced to sit out for the rest of the year due to injury. Hodgson also played for Team Canada in the 2008 World Junior Tournament, scoring 12 points, ending up tied for the tournament lead in the category.
The Ontario native is one of the clubs most talented prospects. However, because of his injury and the Canucks depth at centre he has been subject to several trade rumours. As a Centre Hodgson will be forced to line up behind superstars Henrik Sedin and Ryan Kesler for five years before he is given a top line assignment. This type of depth down the middle has sparked a debate around the youngster regarding his future.
Hodgson spent the 2009 play-off campaign with the Canucks American Hockey League affiliate the Manitoba Moose, scoring six points in eleven games.
