Hodgson reveals Torres can be transferred to another club if offer is attractive
The new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has officially announced that Fernando Torres has committed himself to the Liverpool club. He also informed that though the club is in real need of quality players he will not entirely reject an attractive offer made for the coveted striker.
The former Fulham manager expressed that if the club is offered a big bid for the Spanish striker then he will indeed consider the selling of Torres. He clarified that though the club will like to attain services of the star striker but if the Merseyside was presented a good offer they will not refuse it blatantly.
This new revelation has displayed a whole new story at Anfield and gives in a wider perspective of ongoing matters if pondered deeply. For instance this fact represents insurance that the deal with QSL is being looked on the highest levels of the club as they want an ownership change in order to up their budget.
Also if the deal goes into effect the club will be able to spend more money and find a replacement for the troubled Torres. Manchester City and Chelsea were already keen on signing the world class striker despite his failures at the World Cup and his proneness to injuries. Real Madrid and Barcelona were also looking forward to sign in the player and the bids had reached the point of making an English record with a staggering 70 million pounds.
Currently El Nino is on the radar of the Blues and Eastlands. However he has returned to the team and is currently attending training sessions with them. The star has expressed his happiness in returning to the Reds saying that he trusted Hodgson. He also relayed that he was looking forward to the season and is hoping he will be able to get Liverpool out of their miseries.
Initially Liverpool never thought of selling their prized possession but after the World Cup when he got demoted from the first line up and injured himself in the last minutes of the final, the player from the World Champions squad still got a plus 60 million pounds offer on him instantly after the World Cup ended and that has left the club and the board in a dilemma.
Liverpool can also be the ones at a disadvantage from signing off Torres. Torres has always been the saviour for Anfield and has an outstanding club record of 56 goals in 79 appearances. While his physical fitness has bothered the club the star has always been the one to deliver for Reds. Hodgson too has admitted Torres’ importance for the next season. He nevertheless has confirmed that he will not be taking a rash decision about the future of Liverpool or Torres.
The 62 year old English manager Hodgson expressed, “The important thing for Fernando and for us is that we have a good season, he as a player, us as a club and me as a manager. Who knows what next season will bring? We could have a fantastic season and the players will not want to go anywhere or we could have a worse one and there will be more speculation”.
He continued, “It could be he does so fantastically well and an offer comes in like the offer came in for Kaka or Cristiano Ronaldo (£56million and £80million respectively, both from Real Madrid) which is impossible to turn down.
However he did say after that if the situation arises then it could be a problem but so far it has not happened so there is no need to worry about. He also told that Torres had been practicing with the team and he will be part of the squad for the season. Hodgson spoke on the subject saying Torres has shown he is committed to the club and respects his contract with the Merseyside. He admitted that he is relieved that rumours of Torres leaving the Reds are finally over.
Earlier Torres caused quite some unrest at Anfield making the just signed in Hodgson travel to the 26 year old striker in Spain who with his team was enjoying the spoils of victory after becoming the 2010 FIFA World Champions. Torres himself was quiet as a church mouse in the middle and last part of the summer while his comments, taunts and condescending suggestions for Reds never ceased to end while the season was on.
Torres has praised and confirmed that he trusts the decisions of Hodgson and expressed that he will do whatever it takes to rejuvenate the club back to its former glory. He stated, “I hate bland statements saying 'Don't worry, everything will be rosy' when you know the world of football and what we are up against. I know the battles that have to be fought sometimes to get things right and I was anxious not to make any false promises”.
The former Atletico Madrid star added, “But it is a much nicer feeling today with all these players still with us with the possibility to bring in one or two new faces”.
