Hodgson thinking of more signings
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that although he is satisfied with the current squad at his disposal, he is still looking for some additions to the team before the domestic season kicks off in August.
Liverpool have already added Joe Cole, Danny Wilson, Jonjo Shelvey to their squad while Fabio Aurelio and Yossi Benayoun from the first team have already left the club. Another player who looks to be on his way out is Emilano Insua, Liverpool have agreed to a deal with Fiorentina, believed to be around the 5 Million Pound mark.
Hodgson, who joined Liverpool from Fulham after Rafa Benitez was relieved of his duties, knows that the team needs a few more additions after a very poor display last season, where they failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and finished in seventh place.
One of the departments that certainly needs another player or two is the left back position. After selling the two left backs, Aurelio and Insua, Liverpool are desperately short in that area and will be looking for someone to fill the spot.
One man who has been linked with a move to the Merseyside club is the former Chelsea man, and current Manchester City player, Wayne Bridge. After the arrival of Jerome Boateng from the Bundesliga, Bridge has gone down the pecking order at Manchester City and Liverpool could step in and offer him first team football.
Wayne’s former teammate Joe Cole is also at Liverpool and Hodgson will be hoping that Cole, along with other England Internationals such as Gerrard, help convince the City man to join Liverpool in what could be a historic season for the club.
Hodgson, however, was quick to mention that there won’t be any wholesale changes to the squad, since there are a number of young players looking for a spot in the first team.  The Liverpool manager tried out some of the young players who have come through the academy, such as Eccleston and David Amoo, in a pre-season friendly against the Swiss team, Grasshopper F.C, which ended 0-0.
Roy also had a lot of good things to say about the new recruit Danny Wilson who has joined Liverpool from the Scottish club Rangers.  The 18 year old is one of the brightest prospects in Scottish football and his signing could prove to be inspirational if he fulfills even a fraction of the potential he apparently has.
Liverpool have traditionally had a very strong defense but in the last season they conceded a lot more goals than usual and Hodgson will be hoping Wilson helps Liverpool go back to being a defensively solid team and then build from there.
There is still a long time until the transfer window closes but it is always ideal for teams to get the players they want well before then. A pre-season at a new club goes a long way in helping new players settle in and Hodgson will be trying to make sure that he concludes Liverpool’s transfers for the season as soon as possible.
