Hodgson to fend off offers for Gerrard and Torres
Liverpool are set to confirm Roy Hodgson as their new manager, but his first task will be trying to hold onto Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres.
The future of both stars has been called into question following the departure of Rafael Benitez, and there are potential suitors for the pair. Liverpool’s financial situation means that both players could be available at a cheap price to ease the club’s debt.
Real Madrid are keen to land skipper Gerrard, and have offered the Reds £20million for him already. Torres meanwhile is also wanted by Real Madrid, and also Premier League champions Chelsea.
If Liverpool were to sell their Spanish No.9, they would want a price round about £60million, but reports have suggested that Chelsea’s first offer could be £25million.
Hodgson guided Fulham to the Europa League final last season, and Liverpool are expected to pay the west London outfit around £2miilion in compensation.
The 62-year-old has a mission on his hands to keep Liverpool’s prized assets intact.
