Hodgson to have the final chat with Torres as Liverpool prep up for next season
The head of Anfield Roy Hodgson has mentioned that he has planned to depart from the Liverpool base to meet his star striker the Spanish Fernando Torres and ask him for his final decision if he wants to stay with the Merseyside or make his move.
Hodgson is clever enough to play the cards at such a situation when El Nino has returned from the World Cup victory and though top notch clubs from all over the world making bids for him, the star himself has proved to be out of form at the World Cup in South Africa and now he is facing an injury before the start of the season when tore his thigh muscles.
With all these issues going on the clubs that were looking out for him are quiet. This will eventually mean that if the player is able to make his move now he will be paid very less for it. Recently Torres has been undecided on his final decision and that is just the reason why Hodgson wants to exploit the issue.
Inter Milan, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Barcelona have all put Torres on their side to get listed and have been making unofficial offers to him for some time now. Liverpool has told that they will be looking for a figure around 50 million pounds for the ace striker.
Hodgson stated that the decision has to be made soon as the practice session for the leagues are about to start and he has to finalize his final team. After his leg injury, Torres informed that he will be out of action for at least the next 3 weeks.
Hodgson no doubt will want to keep his hands on the World Cup winning player. The former Fulham manager expressed, “I think it's safe to say the pictures of Fernando in the dressing room with the World Cup certainly went down well with our fans, but the club can be proud of all the players who went away to the World Cup”.
Hodgson went on to say that he is extremely optimistic that Torres will decide to stay at the club. He also said that Torres stay will not just help the performance of the club but convince other players to remain loyal to the Kop.
While talking to the media he stated, “To have four players reach the final is an incredible achievement and I look forward to working with them when they return to Melwood after their holidays”.
The Liverpool board has also sent a medical team to Madrid to examine the player and prep him up if he has to play at the forth coming matches in due time. The Reds medical team has relayed that they are coordinating with the doctors of the Spanish team too and they hope that they can get Torres on a speedy recovery.
Torres who was signed to play for Anfield at 26 and a half million pounds is expected to be back before the crucial opening match against Arsenal on the 15th of August.
The new medical head at Liverpoool Peter Brukner said, “The initial assessment was he had a mild adductor tear and the Spanish medical staff didn't consider it to be too serious at the time. He had an MRI scan yesterday, which confirmed a small tear. He should be able to resume training within two to three weeks and be able to play again within three to four weeks”.
Most of the famous players were missing from the training camp held in Switzerland while the most prominent faces were; Alberto Aquilani, Lucas, Albert Riera and Emiliano Insua, Sotirios Kyrgiakos and Milan Jovanovic.
Hodgson will have his first encounter as a Liverpool manager against the Arabian Club Al-Hilal on Saturday. They then will play against the Grasshoppers Kaiserslautern before they start their campaign at the Europa League qualifiers on the 29th of July.
