The Three Lions are set to take on Moldova, in a game that many feel will be a walk in the park for the team.
However, Hodgson doesn’t want to take any chances in the game as he feels over confidence can cost any team points, at any stage, in any tournament.
"That's international football these days," Hodgson told reporters.
"It doesn't matter who you are playing you know that if you don't prepare for a game against a well-organised and well-disciplined side that will work very hard to stop you scoring then you're not preparing properly.”
"So we are aware of that and we're also aware from the games we've studied that they're also a team that are capable of playing very well and causing problems so we won't underestimate them."
He then went on to talk about the fact that the Dutch team found it hard to crack down Moldova, and only managed to beat them by one goal to nil on both the occasions that they met.
"We're well aware that a very strong Holland team only won here 1-0 and only won away 1-0.”
The manager did have some concerns about the playing conditions that would be present, and the fact that the pitch could be a little better suited to the Moldovan national team, as opposed to his English squad.
Despite that fact, he admitted that his team needed to perform on whatever surface they were to play in, while he also expressed strong faith in the fact that the Moldovans would be using the best pitches possible.
"But it's up to us to deal with whatever playing surface. I'm sure the Moldovan national team want to play on the best pitches possible also."
With everyone now waiting to see just what England can do in the upcoming game, it is going to be up to the players and Hodgson to avoid disappointing the fans.
