I recently acquired two new(ish) subwoofer speakers and I want to know what kind of amp to use and how to wire it in my house.

The speakers are 10" Rockford Fosgate subwoofers in a closed speaker cabinet.

The problem is, they are designed to be installed in a car for car audio and I want them in my house.. what kind of non-car audio amp do I use to power them and how do I wire it?

  1. You can do a couple of things.

One is, you could buy a stereo power amplifier.  This would hook up to the LFE (subwoofer) output of your surround sound system and would power both speakers.

Another thing you could do is buy a prepackaged subwoofer amplifier.  The value of doing this is the features usually built into subwoofer amplifiers - adjustable crossover frequency, multitude of input choices, level controls. etc.
