I mean, do the #'s between the periods stand for states or areas of the world or something? That is probably a totally wrong idea... Someone please explain it to me-I'm just curious... Thanx!

  2. an IP Address is a set of number that tell people or the FBI where you are and what type of computer your using. an IP address to a computer is like the numbers on your house. If say like you want to get on myspace or google them websites need an IP address to send there info for you to use the website. almost like if someone needed to send you something in the mail they would need your address to send you your mail. Hope This Helps !

  3. The Internet Protocol also is responsible for routing data packets between networks, and IP addresses specify the locations of the source and destination nodes in the topology of the routing system. For this purpose, some of the bits in an IP address are used to designate a subnetwork. (In CIDR notation, the number of bits used for the subnet follows the IP address. E.g. 192.168.100.1/16) An IP address can be private, for use on a LAN, or public, for use on the Internet or other WAN.

The role of the IP address has been characterized as follows: "A name indicates what we seek. An address indicates where it is. A route indicates how to get there."

  4. this is the protocol  TCP\IP

If you are using this protocol for communication then each PC on the relevant network will have a unique IP address to identify it kinda like your car registration

You get different classes of addresses

you get an ip addresses for your LAN network which you can assign yourself by entering your network properties.

they are also seperated by subnets(255.255.255.0)

You also get Public IP addresses

these are for WAN an excellent example of this is the internet

all web pages have are actually ip addresses, but we use DNS names to map to ip addresses

so rather than typing 207.46.232.182 to access a web page we type www.microsoft.com

an easy way to check an ip address for a web page is to open a dos prompt by typing cmd in run

then type "ping www.microsoft.com" this will then reply with the IP address

  5. every rouder  has a different IP address lik every home has a different address.  they are just identification codes
