http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/TSG-1899-Hoffenheim-c40767 chief Dietmar Hopp has given Markus Babbel a go ahead to achieve his target for Europe’s premier competition. He has also backed his coach to move forward with the project.
The German team had a disappointing campaign last term, finishing 11th in the Bundesliga. They were 19 points behind the fourth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach, who were the lowest ranked club to qualify for the UEFA
Champions League.
Hoffenheim were far behind the final Champions League spot and massive changes will be needed for them to play in Europe’s elite tournament. Babbel’s ambition to achieve this feat has impressed his boss. Hopp was delighted with
the strong initiative taken by the current manager.
"I like that mentality very much,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The Chairman further suggested that football is similar to a business. Managers set their goals, then strive to achieve them and new goals are set in motion which are to be achieved.
This process repeats itself and successful ventures are awarded with incentives. On the other hand, if the objective is not completed then the next objective should be set that can be achieved.
“It's like a business: you must have ambitious goals, and you'll be rewarded when they are reached, otherwise you will not succeed at all. However, if Babbel does not reach that goal, then he must live with it," he added.
Hopp praised the new signing, goalkeeper Tim Wiese, and believes that the German international could fire his team to the top-four finish. He recently met the former Werder Bremen shot-stopper and came to know that the player was
a crucial member of the national team.
"I met Tim in the national team training camp and also learn that he has a very important role in the team," he concluded.
Wiese joined Hoffenheim on a free transfer in May. He was subject to a strong interest from Real Madrid and AC Milan but signed for the German team instead. He was the second high-profile signing after the capture of Eren Derdiyok
from Bayer Leverkusen for a concealed transfer fee.
