Hogg determined to make most of second chance – Cricket News Update
Australia’s left-arm spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bradley-Hogg-c59047 is relishing the second chance offered to him by the selectors and is determined to make the most of his unexpected recall, at an odd age of 41 years.
While speaking to media reporters at the pre-event press conference in Colombo on Thursday night, Hogg said that he was enjoying playing cricket.
The Western Australia-born cricketer, who was part of Australia’s 2003 and 2007 World Cup-winning squads, also vowed to give his absolute best to the team to help them win their first World T20 title.
"I’m just enjoying playing cricket and I am very fortunate to play international cricket again," said Hogg, who has played seven Tests and 123 ODIs, besides six T20 Internationals. "I’m happy we won two World Cups. To win a World T20 will cap off everything," he
added further.
The 41-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 spinner, who had retired from world cricket four years ago, before returning to contention through Big Bash League last season, will be the oldest player at this year’s T20 World Cup.
Hogg was confident he would not have any issues in adjusting with young players in the current squad. He however admitted that there was wit within the Australian contingent over his senior status.
"Some of the lads could be old enough to be my sons," said Hogg, who will be sharing dressing room with teenager pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iftikhar-Ali-Khan-Pataudi-Nawab-of-c64075 Cummins, who was just three when the left-arm off-spinner made his international debut, back in August 1996.
Hogg’s impressive performances in the Big Bash League last season earned him selectors’ nod for the home T20 series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, and later an unlikely call-up into the World T20 squad.
"I didn't know I'd play for Australia again when I went to witness the Test in Perth early this year and selectors came up and asked if I was interested. I wasn't going to say no,” said the left-armer, reminiscing about his recall into the national T20 side.
"There are always surprises in life. If you work hard and take the opportunities when they come, you make the most of those opportunities,” he added further.
Drawn with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 will play their tournament opener against minnows Irish on September 19.
