Hold On Julio not to take part in the Sky Bet Chase
Hold On Julio will not be taking part in the Sky Bet Chase at Doncaster on Saturday, January 28, 2012. He was given the best starting price by the bookmakers, but seems to be unprepared for the race.
Alan King, trainer of Hold On Julio, stated, “Julio breezed this morning and I was not happy with him, and it has transpired that he has a dirty scope. It is disappointing as he looked to have a big chance, but that's racing. We'll get him right before
making further plans. “
The nine-year-old horse had a starting price of 7 to 2. He has got a very decent record in chase races, entering three and winning all of them. However, performing with the same level of consistency is not the easiest job. This is why, Alan King decided
not to enter scratch his horse, who is not at his best.
In the absence of Hold On Julio, Shakalakaboomboom will be the favourite to win with a starting price of 7 to 2. The Nicky Henderson trained horse has got a very good record in chase races.
The eight-year-old has won four chase races out of the eight he took part in. Other than that, he also has a lone third place finish, which indicates that he has the ability to fight for the top spot.
Another horse, who is likely to perform well at Doncaster is, Galaxy Rock. He also has an impressive record in chase events, winning four of them. He will be partnered by jockey, Tony McCoy, who recently made his comeback after recovering from injury.
McCoy was unseated from his horse in a race back in December, 2011. He sustained rib and lung injuries due to that, but was determined to race again, thus trained extremely hard for it.
The veteran jockey proved to be very much competitive in his comeback race, finishing second overall. However, he said that winning the race would have been a lot sweeter.
He added, “I'm fine but I would feel a lot better if I had won. The horse was a bit keen early on. I have come back pretty quickly considering what happened and I will just have to build up and see how it goes.”
