  1. practice, practice, practice. also drink lots of water. i know it sounds strange, but water helps every organ in your body stay hydrated and maintain its elasticity. also if you eat right your body mass stays low which helps your lungs work more efficiently since they have to support less body mass. other than that practice. go swimming as often as you can and see if you can increase your time by one to two seconds every time you go.

  3. Just practice and over time your lungs will let you hold in your breath longer.

  4. There are MANY tips I could tell you but ill just start with the few basics you should know.

First of all, you could blow your air out like the other person was saying, but this means that you are blowing out less oxygen and that means that you wouldn't be able to stay under longer.

You need to get really comfortable in the water so that you are not splashing around or scared. The more you are worrying or moving around the faster your heart beats. The faster your heart beats is the more oxygen your body is using to stay alive.

Before you go underwater exhale all of your air calmly, then inhale calmly. You do this because the need to breath is a result of Carbon Dioxide levels are too high in our body, So you exhale to remove it.

But NEVER push yourself too far without trained professional supervision. Blacking out in a pool is a very dangerous thing.

  5. to get a lot of air in ur lungs, stand up straight in the water and breathe in deep, then go down. it helps to blow bubbles as you descend, then you won't use as much energy trying to stay down (well, that works for me because i float up annoyingly fast unless i let almost all my air out). also, if you happen to be one of those people who gets water up their nose unless they plug it or blow out constantly, you should get a pair of noseplugs/a snorkling mask. holding your nose might slow you down if you want to swim around for a bit on the bottom, and constantly blowing out air won't leave you with much time, either.
