is it bad for my car specifically to my clutch if i hold it while throttling to high rpms? because when i would want my car to have a "scartch" at take off, i hold the clutch then throttle to about 6,000 rpms then i release the clutch slowly depending on how much "scratch" i would want it to do. would you please share your knowledge about it? thanks a lot...

  1. Reving the engine with the clutch engaged doesn't hurt anything.  Spinning the tires like you are is very hard on the clutch and the tires and will dramatically shorten the life of both.  Of course such behaviour is completely unnecessary and in the grand scheme of things, if you are spinning tires that means your not going anywhere.

  2. Why 6000 RPMs, specifically?   If I am not mistaken, each engine reaches peak horsepower at a specific RPM value.  Is yours 6000?

  3. not bad. but you will burn alot of fuel and your engine will get run down with friction.

  4. no you wouldnt do any hard to the clutch while revving.  you do harm it when you release at a high rpm but if you are just revving it with the clutch in, you arnt hurting your clutch

  5. Just a couple things.

The release bearing is part of the clutch system that spins as fast as the clutch.  High engine speed can affect the release bearing in many ways:

    1.  It can lose all its grease and freeze-up

    2.  It can explode

    3.  It can wear the fingers on the clutch

Also, as your clutch disc wears out, the clutch fingers can go "past flat".  If this happens, your clutch will not grab at high engine RPMs when you let off the pedal.  The clutch pedal will stay on the floor until the RPMs come down.

  6. I remember my drinkin days when I used to do dumb c**p too
