okay, well my rents due on the 16th of each month, I went in on july 16th to recover what items i left in storage, it was already double locked. I checked with them again on the 20th and they said it wasnt locked until the 18th, but it was on the 16th because i went to get my stuff, now they refuse to let me have my items without paying another months rent? can they do that? is there a certain amount of time i have to get my belongings? what do u suggest i do? its 20 days due now, if i pay today its paid until the 16th of august, but i really cannot afford to pay another month, but i do need my personal mail...any suggestions

Thanks in advance..

  1. Pay or walk away and forget about your stuff.

  2. Hate to say it, but you're kind of screwed. If you can't afford storage rent you certainly can't afford the lawyers fees it'll take any other way.

  3. They can NOT hold your possessions hostage.  Not allowed by law.  But you will need to get them some money soon. They also broke the law by locking you out.  That is not allowed. They must go to court and get a judges' OK to change the locks.  Judges hate it when landlords break the law. Pay $35 at the nearest Small Claims Court.  When the landlord gets that notice, you will get your stuff. /

  4. Yes, they can do that.   As soon as you are not paying rent you loose rights to your storage.   You need to be paid in full before you can remove your belongings.
