Holding nerves was crucial, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RG-Sharma-c2309 – Cricket News Update
The premier batsman of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians, Rohit Sharma believes that handling the pressure was key in the close encounter against the Deccan Chargers, which was the ninth fixture of the Indian Premier League's (IPL) season five.
The Indians are considered to be one of the favourites in the ongoing tournament. In their previous match they lost to the Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Christian-c1308 for a six on the last ball of the match to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against Deccan.
In recent times, Sharma has been out of form in international cricket, although he played a brilliant knock in the Asia Cup 2012 match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at Dhaka, he failed to make an impact in the initial two matches of the IPL; however, he more than made up for it with a thrilling knock in the third match.
Rohit said that the match was all about controlling the nerves. He praised the bowling performance of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409 and admitted that he was not looking to take any risks against the fast bowler. Rohit knew that his team would win the match if he batted till the last ball.
The right-handed batsman said, “The only idea was to stay calm under pressure situations. I always knew that we could achieve the target if we take it till the end. The idea was not to give any wickets to Dale Steyn in the penultimate over.”
The top order batsman also added that victory was crucial for his team’s chances in the tournament. Needing 18 to win in the last over, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JEC-Franklin-c1684 struck a boundary on the first ball, and then Rohit escaped a run out chance on the second last ball of the game, which he thinks were the two turning points of the match.
“Franklin got a four in the first ball and I thought the dive on the second last ball was what saved us. We needed this win very badly. We lost the second game and needed to win this to gain momentum. Hopefully, we can carry this momentum in the future games,” he added.
