Holding your breathe under water?

What is the best way to hold your breathe under water? My friends and I all ways have contest and I'm ALL WAYS the first one out.

  1. before you start take really deep breathes then once your under water every 10 seconds or so let out a little bit of air. and most of all just relex and if you sing a song it usually gets your mind off of it and that helps! :]


  2. Make sure you're heart isn't beating fast, and other than that close your eyes and make sure not to laugh

  3. i practice this for -scuba---relax--take a few good deep breaths--then hold the last one--its harder to stay under with a lung full--so if you can--grab on to something while under--and dont move at all  ---then let a bit out---not too much------any movement you make will use oxygen---try to put yourself in a meditation state,,see how long you can last!,,,if you can do 2 minutes or more  --its working....good luck!!

  4. Fastest way to win your friends is this way::

    >>Practise extended breath-holding out of the water, at home

         with a time-piece having a seconds hand.

    >>Take a real deep breath and hold it when the seconds hand reaches 12, pinching your nose with thumb and forefinger.  Attempt to hold your breath for 15-30 secs, but

    breathe a little out through your mouth when you feel uncomfortable.

    >>Try 5-7 more times, bettering the previous times. Practise

    this exercise for a week, but ease off whenever you become dizzy.Good times in water are a minute and a half to 2mins and achievable. But do not become obsessed with this and try to set records beyond this, as it can come with unnecessary risk, like brain damage. Be sensible.

    >>Get a friend along to practise in the pool in waist-high or over-head water. You must feek as comfortable in deep water as possible. Practise holding and releasing breath in water with your friend keeping the timing.

    Do your 'secret' preparation over 2 weeks or so, and you shall be ready to beat all your friends. Believe me, and best of luck!!

  6. Take in deep breaths, then let out about 3 times, then when you feel like your going to burst, blow out into the water a little again and again. You should be able to hold your breath a little longer that way.

  7. in addition to what the other person said move as little as possibles that will keep your muscles from taking in extra oxygen.
