Question:

Hole in my pocket?

i have alot of keys in my pockets due to work. I tend to get a small hole on the inside of the pocket. This drives me nuts, because i don't want to throw away good clothes for a minor hole in the pocket. I have a couple of pairs of shorts (khaki type material) and pants that have holes in their right pockets.

Is there anything that i can do to fix them? I'm thinking turning the pair inside out and sewing a patch where the hole is. However is that going to create a rough surface against my leg? I need some expert sewing help!

  1. I would get some nice strong but smooth material and make a new piece to stitch over the pocket a bit bigger than the area of the hole or if you are handy enough you can buy ready made pockets to replace in your shorts

To prevent further damage perhaps you might like to try this, go to a shop that sells bags or travel goods and buy what we call in Australia - a bum bag - it goes around the waist on the outside of your clothes and has a pouch with a zip front - it

can be worn in front  or to one side if it is more comfortable

that way. Put your keys in this and it is less likely to damage - your pockets.

i have included a website belowwhich has illustrations to help you

  2. I would purchase some Iron-on patches to place inside the pocket of each pair of pants/shorts before the hole forms. This patch will take the brunt of the keys, not the clothing material. As far as the holes that are already there, you are going to want to either patch them, or scrap them and get new clothes. Take them to a seamstress to see if they are able to fix.

  3. Yes you can patch them or sew the hole up.
