there is a little hole in my yard about 1-2 inches in diameter with an unknown depth, with little mounds of dirt surrounding it. snakes don't dig holes like that... we think it is either a bee nest or frogs, because there are tons and tons of little frogs hopping around that area.

i live in the south, and we are going through a drought. any ideas?

  1. It might be armadillos. They dig for food. I've had them in my yard before. I also live in the south.

Edit: Only if the hole are just a few inches deep. If they're so deep that you don't know how deep they actually go it may be moles. I've had those too. Just get yourself a Jack Russell and that problem will be eliminated. :)

  2. is the hole  one or two inches in diameter or one half inch?   If it is one half inch across it is probably the solitary wasp called  "Cicada Killer".  Harmless, but can dig up the yard after a few years when the population gets larger.

  3. I too live in the south Texas and it could be moles or gophers
