Hole number 10 at Ryder Cup 2010
European captain, Colin Montgomerie, stood in a blue jacket on the green fields looking like an uncomfortable spectator. Lee Westwood warmed up his former-injured calf and headed into the field, the crowd continued cheering loudly. The Ryder Cup’s second
session got underway on a crisp Saturday morning.
The air was electric and there was just too much going on at the tenth hole.
Luke Donald after playing the par 4 final putt reached a one up in his score. At the 200-yard hole number 10, the European’s ball after hitting the ground did a back-take but managed to stop just short of the hole on the green.
At the same hole, Padraig Harrington practiced three times before playing his drive. His drive had been long and hard and to his relief the ball crossed the sand bunker and landed on the semi rough.
Bubba Watson from the U.S. Team stood with a 1 up in red at this hole. Regretfully, his drive wasn’t strong enough to send the ball over the bunkers and into the rough. His ball flew a long trip straight and landed into the sand bunker. At his second shot,
however, Watson’s stroke received huge a round of applause from the crowd as the ball landed one foot short of the cup.
Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer team played the par 5 hole well enough. Westwood played a great shot and landed the ball extremely close to the cup. The European partner, Kaymer landed his ball on the green as well.
Zach Johnson from the Yankees side played for a birdie at hole number 10. He played rather carefully but unfortunately his ball stopped short of the hole and it missed the cup. The ball travelled with a pace of its own and turned right just before it reached
the hole ignoring a good birdie-opportunity back.
Jeff Overton sent his ball soaring over the green fields and landed some feet short of the cup. The American stood at 1 up on the par 10th hole. Overton played the par 3 while chasing a 2 up. The twenty-seven year old played his shot hard and
sent his ball straight into the cup finally attaining the desired 2 up score.
Martin Kaymer from the European side played the par 3 for the win. The man from the host team held a 1 up but failed to do so. Johnson on the other hand played for a birdie at the 11th but missed it at the par 3.
Talking about the Matt Kuchar- Stewart Cink combo, Kuchar at the par 4 hole landed his ball close to the cup on the green.
