  1. Try the Isle of Bute in Scotland. Easy to get to (35 minute crossing on brand new ferries with lots of space to run around.

Then on the island there are empty sandy beaches, open countryside, castles, playgrounds, a Stately Home, wild deer, baby lambs, a colony of 200 seals, no traffic, a full programme of childrens activities (mostly free) and entertainments throughout the summer with our kids who speak English (sort of.)    Visit http://del.icio.us/RogerMortimer foer a collection of articles, photos, actual traveller experiences, blogs etc.

  2. i love mainland spain, or menorca for this very reason, its only a 2 hour flight and there is loads to do there. if you like a more relaxing break then menorca is great for that, whilst still having enough to keep the kids occupied. costa dorada is great on the mainland cos it has a huge theme park, and masses of other stuff to do

  3. We go to Menorca, the island is very child-friendly, the locals love kids, and you will never get tutted at in a restaurant etc. It's mainly families who go there so you don't get groups of drunken louts like you do in some parts of Spain/Majorca. Less than 2 and half hours on a plane too!

  4. take them to jersey and see the zoo plus it packed with beaches, 20 min on plane and they take £
