Question:

Holiday for single parent family in Gran Canaria?

I want to take my son (aged 19 months) on holiday between March and June this year. I have been told Gran Canaria is a great place for kids.

However I'm having real trouble finding a good value holiday (flight + hotel) and I'm looking to spend £350 or less. I'm looking to go for 5 or 7 nights as he normally isn't away from his mother from more than 7 nights when I take him away.

This will be my first time going to Spain and my first time flying with my son.

Does anyone know where I might get a good deal?

  1. gran canria is lovely and hot all year we went nov-dec and did our own tailor made hol it cost £328 for flights £311 for all inc for 2adults and 2 children (not each)for 1 week plus transfers are about £40 each way                                                                                             first check out flight prices where you will be flying from and get a monthly view on www.skyscanner.net

this will give you a flight price

then book your accomadtion through travel republic, alternatetivly you can book it all through travel republic but like i say you will find out the cheapest dates to fly on skyscanner first.

travel money supermarket for travel insurance

it would be best you book it this way as you shoould avoid such high supplements and your little one will travel free. which airport will you be flying from?

    transfers aprox £40 each way

    e.g flight

    choose accomadtion low to high

  2. I wouldn't touch Gran Canaria for a couple of reasons.

1, Taking a baby abroad for the 1st time, you want a quick flight. Garn Canaria is around 4hrs.

2, It's cheaper to get on one of the low cost airlines and stay in the costas. Around 2hrs from the UK.

3, Good 3star hotels, HB are cheap and great value.

    See these

  3. I,m sorry to tell you this but there has been a lot of child abductions lately in Gran canaria so if you go be very careful with your son.

  4. I totally agree with "Mud"!!

Having been to both places I find that Benidorm is a better holiday and by far a lot, lot cheaper!!!

I would say at early or late season it would be a good family holiday choice!

  5. Gran Canaria will cost you double what it will cost to go to Benidorm.

In Benidorm in March it will cost you about £130 each half board! And pick a hotel with an indoor pool for your baby.

A 19 month old baby will be happy in Stoke on Trent, Blackpool or Bournemouth. But Spain in April is cheap, so my advice is go all inclusive with your boy, take him somewhere with an indoor pool and Benidorm will be cheapest.

Gran canaria is further away and will cost you double. The weather will be a little better, but kids don't need a suntan.

When i was a single dad I took my 3 yr old son to a place called Nerja Costa del sol, which is a little bit hilly so you need a car.

But theres load of good resorts in Majorca too. Very child friendly, But things don't really start up til after may in resorts and they will still be quiet in April, which is not a bad thing.

Also the baby needs a 10 year passport and you may get funny looks at customs as I did when my boy was small.

Have a look at La Pineda which is also a great resort on costa Daurada (Dorada) theres hotel Palas Pineda and Pineda palace and Estival Park, all good hotels.
