Im thinking on going to Rome for holiday next year. Where are good places to stay and see? I want to go see the coliseum and the vatican city, and a few other historic sights. Are there any activities or sights anyone would recommend? Any cheapish hotels?

  1. make sure you do the cupola when you do the vatican, right to the top, no cheating and only going half way. try to go in april/may or sept/oct cos the heat is not too overpowering and the queues are not as bad. to see the sistine chapel and the vatican you need to plan for two very early mornings. i stayed in hotel porta maggiore one time and it was good value, not the ritz but not falling down either and good transport links. stayed at the regency aswell, supposed to be a four star but isn't, however still good value, north of via veneto.

  3. Hi,

you must see the "Fountain of Trevi", "piazza di Spagna", "Villa borghese", The Pantheon,  Sant'Angelo castle, the "campidoglio" and the "Foro Romano".

If you want to eat a good Italian pizza, go to "Pizza Ciro" (Via Della Mercede 43/45) it's a good restaurant.

Lasst time I went in Rome, I went in "Hotel De Petris". It's a three star hotel. It's cheap and good. It's located in "Via del Tritone", near the Spain square (Piazza Di Spagna, in Italian). http://www.hoteldepetris.com/
