Question:

Holiday spot between London and York?

Friends of mine live in York and I live in London. We're planning a holiday together but want to keep it as cheap as possible. I suggested Bath but travel is too expensive for them and travelling up North near them is too expensive for me. Any suggestions for a nice place to visit (3 days) that's midway between us. Ideally, a pretty place with some historic associations and places to see.

  1. Nottingham is pretty much in the middle and is a good place to spend a couple of days http://www.visitnottingham.com/ and there's nice countryside nearby

  2. Derby is ok, there is a new £130 million shopping center, but it isn't really pretty, trust me!

Bakewell or somewhere like that is very pretty and has lots of things to do, or dovedale. Eg cycling walks, historical buildings, stately homes etc. and also shopping advernture holidays, for example Lee green.

it depends on what type of holiday you are looking for. Bakewell and dovedale have lots of walks and historical buildings nearby but Derby is a more commertialised holiday.

They are  both very pretty. Belper is also nice and the peak valley has lots of places to stay, google them for hotlels etc.

    hope this helped.

    x.

  3. try lthe lake district very nice

  4. Stamford

  5. Rutland (South Leicestershire) is good, Oakham, Uppingham and Stamford are beautiful places with lots of pretty villages around.  Rutland Water is on the doorstep, 22 miles to cycle round it - but the restaurant and ice creams are beautiful.

  6. Try a forest holiday - there are several log cabin sites in between that do short breaks

  7. It's a real shame you can't afford to travel to York as there are lots of lovely places in Yorkshire. If you can, have another look for cheap travel options, there's probably a way somewhere.

Otherwise how about somewhere like Nottingham?

  8. why not try derby its bang in the middle

got some great historic places to visit and your near alton towers if you want to have a adrenalin rush
