1. Lots of great ideas already just wanted to add: Have you got a holiday bear: the children take it with them when they go on a holiday at my pre schools and they take photos of the bear doing different activites whilst on holiday. IT is always a great way to remind the children of what they did on their holidays and the other children love looking at the holiday bears book.

  2. the united state s and presdendents

  3. I would start with what the kids already know about travel/going on holidays. Where have they already been? How did they get there? What did they do? Have them bring in photos or other memorabilia from their travels.

As a group, choose somewhere they'd like to travel. Have them plan their trip: what needs to be done first, what do they need to take, how do they find out. (What will it cost? You can bring in some math work here.)

Bring in books and brochures for them to look at about their destination. Is there a travel agency near by? Perhaps you could take a field trip there to see what happens. They could set up a travel agency in the dramatic play area.

I did a version of this with preschoolers because they were building an airplane in the block area. I asked them where they were going and they said "Africa". We talked about what they would see and do there. I brought in books about Africa. I borrowed some African items from a friend to display in the classroom. We listened to African music and played some borrowed instruments. We went on " photos safari". We made a Jeep with chairs and pretended to drive. Made binoculars and cameras in the craft area. I posted pictures of African animals around the room when the kids were gone. While we were driving, we spotted the animals and took pictures. A parent who had lived there brought in pictures and talked to the children about living there.

This turned into a project lasting about 3 weeks.

  4. Sorry, can't beat Amy's answer, that is great.

  5. We have a teddy bear that travels each weekend to a new students house and participates in the family's activities. The parent writes a summary in a notebook and the child draws a picture to show what they together. Our bear has been all kinds of places (beach, space center, amusement parks, museums, etc...). The student then tells the class about the travels of "Peter Panda" and shows his picture. Great activity for reading readiness, print awareness and putting events into sequence.

  6. Use stories as starting points. Barnaby Bear is FAB! Look on the BBC for Barnaby Bear. He goes on all sorts of journeys to different places. There are stories and resources that are free to use!

Look at postcards, create postcards from destinations.

  7. Danger of Strangers.

  8. You should try to go in a amusement parks, since kids used to love rides, they will enjoy it. But if you go in hiking kids will be bored because some kids hate walking too much

  9. Paddington Bear travelled from Peru to London in a train with marmalade sandwiches under his hat - what you think of that?! Do you take sandwiches for a picnic on your holiday journeys? etc.

Depends how young the pre-schoolers are - Singing 'the wheels on the bus go round and round' could begin the start of a journey. Where will the bus go? What will you see from the windows? etc.

Sounds a fun project - hope whatever you decide the children will have fun.

  10. How about, "The most important people in your life"

  11. 1) Set up a beach...put a large blanket on the floor, have sand (we used our buidlers tray) with bucket and spades, wwe had a large umbrella and had swimming stuf for kids to put on over top of clothes...also sunhats and empty sun lotion bottles...it was great for beginning discussion on beach holidays, sun safety and water safety.

    2) Children can bring in holiday photos for circle time-each child can talk about the holiday they went on.

    3) If you go to a travel agents they often give you stuff like reciepts, booking forms, posters they dont need etc to help you make your own agents role play area.
