  1. This is a good day trip out of the city to see the finest chateau and pleasure garden in France. Fully restored and furnished this prototype of Versailles is a must see to anyone with a few days to spend out of the city. A short train ride from the gare de Lyon takes you to the small town of Melun. At the station a shuttle bus wil take you to the chateau. There's a indoor outdoor restaurant on the premises. A great place to spend a day out in the countryside. Here is their web site.

  2. Check out the modern art museum called Pompidou. Also the Louvre is a must see in Paris. The Luxembourg Gardens are perfect for photography. In my opinion the best place to take pics of the city is ontop of the Sacre-Couer in Monmatre. Make sure to come here early. The area is full of crime at night. Tracadero is one of the nicest places to see the eifel tower. Also hit The Latin Quarter. More specifically go down a street called St. Michel. At night it is full of life and a great and safe atmosphere with many little cafes. There is an awesome gelato shop called Amorina Gelato that you must try. The Arc de Triomphe is another great place for the city. Galaries Lafayette is a fantastic 7 story shopping mall. For more high end shopping go to the most famous street in the world Champse Elysee. Also La Gran Arch is a great place for views of the city.

Just a little tip: The metro is the easiest way to make it around the city. And for more info about Paris check out the tour guide Paris Top 10. It is full of information and advice.

  3. Try out my favorite hangout in Paris, Aux Trois Mailletz at 56 rue Galande in the 5th arrondissement. Its just off the rue St. Jacques and a few blocks south of the river.  Its a friendly crowd with a good mix of locals and visitors. There's live music (a piano player and singers)on the ground floor, decent food at not unreasonable prices and a very cool nightclub type scene in the basement. [Sorry I won't be there until October otherwise I'd offer to buy you a drink].

The Cafe Conti at 1 rue Buci is a pretty friendly place for a quick drink, a cup of coffee, or a light meal. Its a few feet from my usual hotel in Paris so I probably like it because I go there so often. Here's a little video of it: http://www.paris-zoom.com/video/259/Le-C...  Its the sort of place that after a few visits looks at you as a "regular."  The portions increase in size, free drinks show up on the table, and you're otherwise treated as family.

Of course, that's not really all that that unusual in Paris and, I suppose, some if it has to do with your own attitude and how you deal with people.

I think you'll like Le Coupe Chou restaurant. Very cozy and romantic with reasonable prices. Check out their website: http://www.lecoupechou.com/index.php?PHP...

Much pricier but very good is le Gaspard de la Nuit restaurant. Here's there website: http://le-gaspard-de-la-nuit.com/index-g...

  4. if you want to experience a traditional French bistro

I'd suggest Royal Madeleine on rue de Chevalier St-George.

It's a little pricey but the meal is delicious and ambience traditional.
