  1. I guess what everybody is doing anywhere!

It also depends where you go.........eg in Paris it's always busy..........concerts, exhibitions, restaurants, bars and everything else you feel up to do. The only time it's kind of slow is during the summer (late July and August):-)

  2. There are several public and religious holidays celebrated in France in the month of May.

The 1rst is Labour day, and you just rest as if it were a Sunday.

The 8th is the commemoration of the Armistice and there are various military parades.

There is also Ascension day, Whit Sunday and Monday, which are religious, and Mothers' day the last Sunday in May.

If you look at the following website (which has been written for Australia by the French Ministry of Information but is explicit for any English speaking person), you will find a list of holidays in France (all year round) with descriptions of activities taking place on those days. I hope you find it helpful.
