Finding India tour packages on the internet is quite easy, even in America. You do need to spend several hours looking through them all to find out what suits your lifestyle and your budget. Most of the tour companies on the web cater to the wealthy, and some are very expensive (over $5000 USD per person.)

Hotels in the major cities are very easy to come by in the low season (April through October) and are still fairly easy to get in the high season.

Mumbai has the most, and some would say the best, resorts. Goa has some very nice ones too. However if you go to India to see historical sites and temples and so forth, you should go to north-central India and travel southwards. There is a lot to see here.

If you asked me what the best kind of resort in India is, I'd say a spa resort in the Himalayas, which has exotic and first-class massage and herbal skin treatments. Crisp, clean air and relaxation.
