Holidays on a budget?

Looking for some past experiences or just general information.

Me and my best friend plan to go on a holiday in the next 6-12months.

We were originally aiming for new york, but as students that's pretty unattainable.

The pacific islands (Cook islands fiji) look really nice.

Are there any other places you would reccommend?

It's been a few years since I've been to the Cook Islands (Rarotonga, Aitutaki), but I really liked it there. They're the same type of island formation as French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora), but much more affordable and the people friendlier.

You don't say where you're from (air fare expense to/from?), or if you're looking for a city experience, beach holiday, or an adventure. The Dominican Republic has probably the best all-inclusive deals, but the resorts are all hours away from anything else on the island - good if you want to just lie about on sugar-sand beaches with all food/alcohol included.

hawaii is always fun, my sis and i went freshman year of college and we just relaxed you can get package deals on travelocity or studentuniverse.com for a good price. for something a little different you can do europe the flights are steep but you can stay in a hostel they are actually pretty nice and really inexpensive. Have fun!
