Question:

Holland America...Age of Most Passengers?

I'm an experienced cruiser and have sailed on Celebrity Cruises seven times (I'm 25). I've loved every trip to pieces and found the demographic to be a good mix of young singles and couples, older individuals, familes, etc. Anyway, my sister is going to begin working for Holland America and so my husband and I are thinking of taking their Southern Carribean cruise.

Can any experience Holland America customers give me some insight as to what I can expect as far as the age of most passengers? I don't mind a mixed group as I said before but I would mind it if there were no other young couples aboard.

Thanks!

  1. Holland tends to always have an older clientele usually 55 + if not a bit older.

If you are wanting young couples, this isn't the cruise line for you.

  2. Most of them were born around the time of Moses.  The younger people were born around the time of Jesus.  That's an old-people cruise line.

  3. Having worked for Holland America ( MS Noordam) I find that the average age is high.  The night clubs are not full and tend to close earlier that other lines. Its not a real mixed cruise.  Its not a party hardy cruise line. Its a cruise line with food and service way above the others, and more mature people are conscious of this and want this type of service. Younger people tend to want other stuff and dont notice the food and service as much.

  4. I just returned from a Holland America cruise on Sunday.  The age group was a tad older, but there was a lot of families as well.  I saw a good mix on board.  HAL seemed to be casual during the day and more upscale at night.  There is plenty to do on board no matter your age group and the older people seemed really kind and nice.  I,myself am 32, and was fine with the group of people on board.    I saw many couples with young childern-under age 1, and several couples with many childern.

  5. Depending on time of year, the HAL ship and the length of cruise will really determine the age demographic. Families tend to do 7 night or less and older folks the longer or more exotic cruises.

The newer Vista class ships (1800 pax) have a younger average age about 45 and more families than the older smaller ships where the average age is 55+. Caribbean sailings from FL, or Mexican Riviera cruises tend to have more families but not the Alska sailings.

For couples in your age group, not a good choice unless you are going to hang out with the crew.
