Holland stuns Bangladesh at Glasgow
Bangladesh suffered from their second loss in three games against an 'Associate' nation, as they lost to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 in Glasgow on Tuesday.
The combination of good batting by the Dutch and poor fielding and bowling by their own players cost Bangladesh the game. The chase was assured and it was made to look ridiculously easy by Bas Zuiderent and Wesley Barresi, who took Holland home with seven balls and six wickets to spare.
When Bangladesh made 199 in their 30 overs in the rain-shortened game, the Dutch looked to have a difficult fight ahead of them. But a great start given by Eric Zwarczynski put them on the right track. The opening partnership was crucial and by the time Bangladesh were able get their first wicket, the score was 61 in eight overs.
Zwarczynski was the aggressor and he was able to score boundaries at will. He also got some help from Bangladesh's http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Mahmudullah-c77079, who dropped a sitter at covers when he was on 29 off the bowling of Abdur Razzak. Zwarczynski made good use of this error and rubbed salt in the wounds of the bowler by scoring 17 off his next over.
Spin had been brought on as early as the sixth over and Bangladesh got their breakthrough in the form of Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cooper-c51561 and Peter Borren left with single digit scores and Holland were in a spot of bother. And things went from bad to worse for Holland in the very next over when Zwarczynski departed after a well deserved half century. At that time Holland needed 96 runs in 15 overs with two new batsmen at the crease.
But the partnership between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wesley-Barresi-c96487 was so clever and calculated that the pressure lifted slowly off the shoulders of the Dutch and made Bangladesh feel the heat. Zuiderent was the anchor man while Barresi was the attacker. Barresi was so aggressive that he almost scored a boundary every over. His innings of 64 had 11 fours on a ground which had some pretty long distances to the fence.
Bangladesh missed a great run out opportunity when both the batsmen were stranded in the middle of the wicket. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashrafe-Mortaza-c1917, made a strong throw when only a lob was needed, and the throw was fumbled by the wicketkeeper. In the end it was all too easy for Holland as they sealed the win when the penultimate ball of the penultimate over was glided to the third man boundary by Barresi.
Earlier, Bangladesh were put into bat after the rain delay had forced the game to be reduced to 30 overs a side. Despite the early exit of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jahurul-Islam-c1624. They scored 80 in the next 11 overs and Bangladesh were set for a big score.
But, they lost their way in the middle losing too many wickets between the 18th and the 26th overs. However, some vital contributions in the end from Mahmudullah and Mortaza ensured that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 finished strongly and with a more than fighting score.
However it was not to be in the end as some exuberant Dutch batting denied them victory. It was the Netherlands’ first win against a full member of the ICC. This helped them earn a place in the ODI table which already has http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 in it. It was a disappointing end to the tour for Bangladesh, who were only able to draw the series against Ireland.
