Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races announced their 28 race stakes schedule for 2012
Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races has announced their 2012 racing schedule and it consists of 28 race stakes with the combined purse of all the 28 races to a whopping $3.59 million. The highlight of the 28 race stakes is once again the $1 million Charles Town Classic for 4-year-olds and above which is run over a distance of 1 1/8 miles.
The nominations for the race will close on 31 March, 2012, and the race is scheduled to be held on 14 April, 2011. In 2012, Charles Town Classic will be classified as a grade 2 event, and it will be one of six stakes to go on at Charles Town race course on the 14th of April.
The 2012 schedule of Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races doesn’t include the 20 October West Virginia Breeders Classics. The reason could be that the purses are accumulated from a special state promotional fund and right now those purses will be announced at a later date.
The 2011 edition of the $1 million Charles Town Classic was won by the 5-year-old horse, Duke of Mischief, who went on to defeat a solid lineup containing the likes of Game on Dude, Tizway and Acclamation, and in the process, covered the 1 1/8 miles distance in 1 minute and 51.13 seconds.
In 2011, the Charles Town Classic was graded as the Grade 3 status race, but still worth a purse of $1million. Comparatively, based on the 2011 purses, the Charles Town Classic is the co-second richest race In the United States.
“The Charles Town Classic was one of the best and most productive races in the handicap division this year,” Charles Town director of racing operations Erich Zimny said.
Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races has included a new strakes race for 3-year-olds, the $250,000 Robert Hilton Memorial for 3-year-olds, and based on purses this year it will be the co-second richest in the 3-year-old sprint race which will be run over a distance of seven furlongs, and on the same cared there will be four other stakes races.
Next to the Charles Town Classic in terms of purses, the second richest race will be the $400,000 Red Legend Stakes at Charles Town. It will be held on June 30 and on the same card there will be five other stakes races at Charles Town.
