Hollywood Juvenile Championship – Majestic City victorious over Bob Baffert’s Duo
Jeffery Bloom owned Majestic City is making a name for himself as early as in his two-year career, going three-for-three in his third start at Hollywood Park in the Grade 3 $100,000 Hollywood Juvenile Championship on 17 July.
The 2-year-old colt had to contend with a pair of Bob Baffert-trained colts, Night Tide and Brigand, on a synthetic surface at a distance of six furlongs.
The owner, Jeffery Bloom, recently made a private purchase from Majestic Racing Stable for Majestic City.
The colt responded to Bloom’s call as jockey David Flores guided Majestic City to win the six furlong event by 2 ¼ lengths over his five rivals.
The distance of the race was completed in 1 minute and 10.45 seconds by Majestic City.
The 2-year-old bay colt Night Tide ridden by Martin Garcia took on Majestic City early in the race and got passed him into the lead.
Another Baffert trained colt, Brigand made a quick move like his stable mate, but couldn’t catch up with Night Tide or Majestic City as he remained a good part at third.
The spring/summer meet champion jockey Joel Rosario rode Brigand, as the pair roughed out a late surge to go past stable mate Night Tide to finish second by 1 ¼ lengths over Night Tide.
The son of City Zip, Majestic City showed his connections that he was worth the money they paid for him as he responded to some strong urging by David Flores on the outside to whizz past the Bob Baffert duo and win the race in a convincing manner.
Trained by Peter Miller, Majestic City had an ugly incident prior to the race which included him falling down in his paddock. Peter Miller described that something spooked the champion colt in his paddock which got him back paddling, resulting in a fall.
But it all worked out in the end, as the colt won the race, maintained his winning streak without incurring any injury.
Miller than explained how hard it is for a horse to beat a couple of Baffert trained colts. He added that a horse has to be fast and consistent when it comes to pace to beat one of Bob Baffter’s trained runners.
The race card shaped up to be a good one for Majestic City, in fourth position was Pend Oreille, who finished was back. He’s a Bandit and Ruler of Dubai was scratched before the race.
Majestic City broke his maiden at Hollywood Park on 21 May 2011, went on to win another 5 1/2 furlong event called William Proctor Memorial at the same venue.
Majestic City is out of It'schemistrybaby, with the earnings of $135,570. Definitely the one for the future.
