Hollywood Park Gold Cup 2011 -Twirling Candy, Blind Luck others race for Breeders’ Cup spot
Trainers and jockeys jostling for a Breeders’ Cup spot can find no better opportunity than a Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re in” race to gain an automatic spot, pre-entry, and, entry fees waived off. Not to mention a chance to acquire a $10,000 dollar travel
allowance. Life sure is good when you’re a winner.
The $500,000 Gold Cup is one of Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re in” 1 ¼ miles event, run on a Cushion Track. The race will generously provide the opportunity on 9 July to its participants to win and start in the Breeders’ Cup Classic on 5 November at Churchill
Downs.
The 72nd run of the Grade 1 stakes race has drawn a mighty field of champion horses such as the four-year old multiple stakes winner filly, Blind Luck.
Twirling Candy is also joining the party after the colt’s champion-like performance in the Grade 2 Californian Stakes.
Game on Dude is as unpredictable as it gets, which he proved in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap, and, the winner of the Grade 3 Lone Star Park, Awesome Gem, is among 14 other hopefuls on the field.
It is difficult to judge, given the line-up but bettors and the public are certainly inclined towards a Twirling Candy and Blind Luck duel for the finish line.
The four year old bay colt, Twirling Candy, trained by John W Sadler, has had a successful run recently with three wins out of four starts including an eventful win in the Californian Stakes.
Twirling Candy has turned some heads with his cool runs and aggravates his rivals by those awesome runs striding away to victory.
Talking about rivals, Blind Luck will be there to match strides with Twirling Candy and if the four year old can find a little extra, she can be the fourth Gold Cup winner in the history of the Gold Cup.
Blind Luck seems to get a serious kick out of stiff competition and her recent form is not too shabby at all. Heading to Hollywood with two wins under her belt, most recent was the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap for fillies and mares, she can most certainly take
on all of them and make history in the July 9, 2011 event.
The up-setter Game on Dude will be there to provide an extra zest to things, the four year old brown colt is fully capable of springing a surprise, or, two at Hollywood Park as he did at Santa Anita recently.
Acclamation and Awesome Gem will provide the field with experience. Awesome Gem could become the third Gold Cup winner and on the other hand Acclamation also has multiple grade stakes winning history.
