The Schalke youngster has been tipped to fill in the boots of Raul, who left the club at the end of the previous season.
Raul enjoyed two great years at the Veltins-Arena and became an instant fans favourite. The former Real Madrid man scored an impressive 40 times in the 98 games he took part in and led the club to a historic UEFA Champions League
semi-final in the 2010-11 campaign.
The Spaniard’s departure has raised a question mark on who would replace him in the second striker’s role at the club. The likes of Lewis Holtby and Julian Draxler are contenders for the position, but it remains to be seen what
decision Huub Stevens makes.
Holtby insisted that he rates Raul as one of the greatest footballers in history and admitted that he was highly impressed with the role he played in Schalke’s success at the European stage in the last two years.
