The Schalke 04 starlet talks up his country’s chances of lifting the Euro 2012 trophy.

The midfielder will be missing Die Mannschaft’s Euro 2012 title run due to injury. Joachim Low’s men suffered defeats in their warm up friendlies, even a 2-0 win against Israel could not paper over the cracks. The Germans were
let down by their back line as the team leaked 7 goals in 2 matches against the likes of France and Switzerland.
Defeat against Switzerland raised concerns in the DFB camp as their centre-backs were totally dominated by the Swiss. Lewis Holtby on the other hand is calm; he has full confidence in his team’s abilities. Being a professional
footballer he understands what a long and hard season can do to players. The Schalke 04 starlet further states that players rise to the occasion when it comes to major tournaments.
"No, it is only a friendly and everyone comes from the season and the Bundesliga, the Champions League and the Europa League and I know how they feel," he is quoted to have said in an interview.
The Germans, however, find themselves in a relatively tough group, which includes the likes of Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark, a group which contains 3 potential European Champions.
The midfielder knows DFB eleven are a proven cup team, and have some of best players and coaches in the world. He believes Die Mannschaft possess enough experience and quality which will help them top their group and lift the trophy
eventually.
"They have had many games to keep going on is hard but they will be prepared, Germany are a tournament team and they have so much quality, especially from the coaching staff, to prepare them for the first game against Portugal.
I am sure they will be first in the group." he added.
Last time Joachim Low’s men reached the latter stages of a tournament was back in 2008 when they were beaten by Spain in the final of the European championship. Still hurting from their defeat by Spain in the semis of the 2010
World Cup, the Germans will look to avenge previous losses and wear the European crown.
