  1. No.

  2. Buddhism does have a number of special ceremonies, although none that are exactly similar to Jewish or Christian ceremonies.

Please keep in mind that Buddhism is not a monolithic tradition, any more than Christianity is. Just as many Christian traditions don't celebrate communion, not all Buddhist traditions celebrate in the same way.

In many Buddhist traditions, it's common to have something like a welcoming ceremony for a newly-born child.

In some Buddhist traditions, there are various rites-of-passage ceremonies or activities for children when they enter their teenage years. In fact, in some Buddhist traditions, teenagers ordain as monks or nuns for a few months or so, in order to strengthen their commitment to Buddhist practice.

For an individual Buddhist, perhaps the most important ceremony is the precepts ceremony. Buddhists take the Five Precepts to honor their commitment to practice and to make a resolve to live in ways that create peace and happiness. Some Buddhist take additional precepts, as their practice matures. And some even take monastic vows and live celibate lives.

Almost all Buddhist traditions celebrate Buddha's Birthday, which occurs in the springtime. This day is called Vesak Day in some traditions and the ceremonies and activities on that day honor this great human being.

Some traditions, especially the Zen tradition, also celebrate Buddha's Enlightenment Day. This ceremony, which occurs in the late autumn, usually involves periods of intensive meditation practice.

There are a variety of other celebrations and traditions, but these are the main ones celebrated across most traditions.
