Home AC blower working intermittently?

We had a power outage last week and since then our AC has been working intermittently. The tstat turns on the outside unit but does take longer than previously and the blower may or may not kick on. A tech came by cleaned the filter and everything checked out...but the ac was working when he arrived. Then it worked for a day and then same thing..outside unit is on and the blower working occ. Tech returned and replaced the capacitor and then worked again for a day and now the same problem. If we leave the ac off for some time it will kick on and the blower works for a short period...1-2 hours then cuts off and on (more off)...tech suggested the circuit board may be affected b/c of a "clicking (when he came the 2nd time). Could it be the tstat (honeywell programmable-not showing any error display)? Any suggestions b4 calling the tech back? also no circuit breaker was ever tripped during the pwr outage.

  1. Because of having had a power outage, contact your power company. There is a possibility that somewhere their incoming line may have lost ground. If this did happen, it could have caused power surges into your home therefore causing your A/C problems. It could even destroy small appliances like micro-waves and refrigerators and tv's. They may work for some time after but the sooner you contact them the better the chance that the power company will replace these items.

  2. Most new modern furnaces have a central circuit board that controls all the timing and on-off activity for your A/C. My guess is you have spiked this board, or even a brown out can cause your problem. Most likely this will have to be replaced. This should be done by a qualified serviceman. This is also something usually covered by your homeowners insurance policy. Good luck.

  3. could be a blower relay.
