Home Central AC unit blowing hot air??

Question

First it was blowing cold air, but very little of it. So we went outside hosed off the unit. Nothing looked frozen. Checked the air filter and it was BAD!! After changing the air filter the ac only blows out warm air. I'm thinking it could be frozen even if I can't see it. It's super hot and it's Saturday night!!! Can anyone please help?? (until I can call the ac man) How do I even defrost it?

Try unplugging it for about 1 hour, then plug in back in to see if it resets. Could be your compressor is no good. Also could need refrigerant.

If there is a good transfer of air, coming out of your vents it probably isn't frozen. If the big line going to the unit outside is not frosted or frozen, the inside coil isn't frozen.

Check to see if the outside unit comes on when the thermostat is turned to a colder setting. Does the unit hum? Does the outside fan come on? Can you hear the compressor trying to start? (Outside) Is the thermostat turned to fan or auto and cold?

It needs to be recharged.  Sorry, but you'll have to be warm tonight until you can call the a/c man out.  Hope you have a fan!  Don't know where you live but its been very hot and humid here, and if you have the same weather, I really feel sorry for you tonight.  Hot and muggy!  YUK!!!

Put the fan to "on" and the cool to "off".Run it like that for 30-45minutes and then put the fan to "auto"set your temp to 74,and the cool to "cool"If she was froze up she'll start cooling within 5 minutes.Look for water pouring out of the drain when your running just the fan and you'll know right away if it's a working.Good luck!

Sounds like the unit needs to be charged (pureon). A HVAC tech can do this. Contact a local heating and cooling service for assistance.
