  1. No, that's not what you want.  Not only is it a horribly crummy DVD player, but it doesn't have the optical audio input you need.  (In fact, it has no inputs whatsoever.)  You don't even need a second DVD player as your PS3 can play both blu-ray AND regular DVDs in HD.  The DVD player included with that kit, meanwhile, claims it can't even do progressive scan (480p) which is something that even the cheapest standalone DVD player has been able to do for the past 5 years.

You do not want one of these "home theater in a box" (HTIB) kits.  You want something that is a real 5.1 receiver, and has at least 1 optical audio (also called TOSLink) input on it.

I would recommend buying a receiver and speaker set separately.  You'll get better quality equipment, and if you decide to upgrade later, you can do so piece-by-piece.  HTIB kits cannot be upgraded, nor can you use their speakers with other receivers.  This is another reason HTIB kits are to be avoided.

As for connections, you will want to connect the PS3 to your TV with the HDMI cable, and to the home theater receiver with an optical audio cable.  Please note, while the HDMI cable can carry stereo sound to your TV, the PS3 cannot output audio on both the HDMI and optical cable at the same time.  To get sound from your receiver, you need to go into the PS3's menu, and under Sound settings, turn off HDMI audio.  You won't be able to use your TV's speakers, but the sound you'll get from the receiver's speakers will be much better, even if it's just in stereo.
