I am looking into buying a new home cinema system due to my current one starting to break. The thing i am abit confussed about is the Divx feature off some of the systems. what exactly is divx and what file types do the system that play divx video accept? I have alot of avi video files which i would like to put on a DVD and then watch them on the new DVD home cinema system instead of having to plug my xbox in, and have been told that the avi video files will work on divx players however they were not 100% sure about this so does any1 know if a divx player will allow me to watch my avi files on the player?

  1. Audio Video Interleave, known by its acronym AVI, is a multimedia container format and is considered to be outdated compared to modern codecs like DivX and Xvid. Most DVD home theater with Divx codec installed can also play AVI files and usually has a USB input, so you can use or store files in AVI format or files using DIVX codecs to a USB memory and play it without  burning it into a DVD disc. But those features can be confusing when youre in the stores. So, bring a USB memory with .AVI video files on it and test the home cinema you are planning to buy. Those sales clerk should be accomodating to answer those questions.
